For consideration of immediate employment, the University of Dar es Salaam is accepting applications from Tanzanians who have the necessary qualifications for the following academic positions that are open:

Open Positions and Description

1. Assistant Lecturer (Mechanical Engineering) – 1 post
To carry out lectures, seminars, tutorials and practicals for undergraduate programmes with the following requirement:

  • Master of Science in Agricultural Education and Extension or Master of Science in Crop Science (Specialty- Horticulture) or Master of Science in Crop Science and Technology and Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education and Extension or Bachelor of Science in Crop Science and Technology or Bachelor of Science in Agriculture General or Bachelor of Science in Agronomy.

2. Tutorial Assistant (Beekeeping Science and Technology) – 1 post
To under-study senior members of academic staff. You must require the following:

  • Bachelor of Science in Beekeeping Science and Technology or Bachelor of Science in Bee Resource Management or Bachelor of Science in Zoology or Bachelor of Science in Botanical Science.

3. Assistant Lecturer (Mechanical Engineering) – 1 post
To Set, invigilate and mark undergraduate examinations, you must require the following:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field. A candidate familiar with CAD software, simulation tools and other relevant technologies but also with a practical experience in the mechanical engineering industry can be highly valuable which include working in a design, manufacturing, research and development, or other relevant sectors.

4. Tutorial Assistant (Crop and Livestock Economics and Business) – 1 post

  • Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Natural Resources Economics and Business.

5. Tutorial Assistant (Food Science) – 1 post

  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology (4 years’ degree program)

6. Assistant Lecturer (Chemical and Process) – 1 post

  • Master of Science in Chemical and/or Process Engineering or Master of Science in Environmental Engineering or Energy Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Chemical and/or Process Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering.

7. Assistant Lecturer (Electrical Engineering) – 1 post

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering majoring in one of the following specializations; Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering, Power Electronics and Hardware Development, Electrical Machines & Drives, Automation and Control Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Teaching (pedagogy) and research experience in the mentioned courses of specialization will be an added advantage.

8. Assistant Lecturer (Engineering Management) – 1 post

  • Master in Engineering Management and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.

9. Assistant Lecturer (Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering) – 1 post

  • Master of Science in Mechatronics Engineering or Master of Science in Energy Engineering or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.

10. Assistant Lecturer (Quantity Surveying) – 1post

  • Masters of Science in Construction Management and Bachelor of Science in Property Development.

11. Assistant Lecturer (Architecture) – 1post

  • Masters in Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning or Bachelor of Science in Architecture.

12. Assistant Lecturer (Civil and Construction Management) – 1post

  • Masters of Science in Construction Management or Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Civil (Structural, Water Resources or Transportation) Engineering or Bachelor of Architecture.

13. Assistant Lecturer (Transportation Engineering) – 1 post

  • Master of Science in Transportation Engineering or Master of Science in Highway Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Civil Transportation Engineering.

14. Department of Water Resources Engineering (WRE) – 75 Posts

General Qualifications:

  1. Lecturer: To be considered for the position of Lecturer, candidates must hold a PhD, an undergraduate degree from an internationally recognized higher education institution, and a minimum GPA of 4.0 or a B+ average at the Master’s degree level. Academically, they have to have promise.
  2. Assistant Lecturer: The minimum GPA required for the position of Assistant Lecturer is 4.0, or a B+ average at the Master’s degree level, and applicants must have graduated from an internationally recognized higher education institution with an undergraduate degree with an overall GPA of 3.8 or better. Academically, they have to have promise.
  3. Tutorial Assistant: Candidates for the Tutorial Assistant position must be graduates of an internationally recognized higher education institution with a minimum GPA of 3.8 and a Bachelor’s degree.

  • Applicants should indicate Departments/Disciplines and positions for which they apply.
  • Applicants must have National Identification numbers from the National Identification Authority (NIDA).
  • Applicants who are currently employed in the Public Service must channel their application letters through their respective employers.
  • Applicants whose employment in public service was terminated for whatever reasons should not apply.
  • Certificates from foreign Universities should be verified by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
  • Certificates from foreign examination bodies for Ordinary or Advanced level education should be verified by The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA).
