A competent Accounts Officer Intern is needed by Ifakara Health Institute to work on the PMI (Defeat) Malaria project. The project’s accounting and financial operations will be supported by the accounts officer. In addition to helping to update the assets register and guaranteeing adherence to both internal and external requirements, this function entails keeping correct financial records.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help with the system’s payment processing and inspection.
  • Retain and preserve project transaction records.
  • Help maintain the assets record up to date.
  • Help with the preparation of VAT applications for Ministry of Health and supporter approval, as well as their submission to TRA for reimbursement.
  • Help with the monthly bank reconciliation process.
  • Assist the Grants unit with administrative duties.
  • Keep track of your grants and finance files to make sure you have all the required paperwork.
  • Examine the spending reports and fund reconciliations of subgrantees in collaboration with the Senior Grants & Finance Officer.
  • Help collect the required data and ensure that subgrantees’ expenditures are accurate and compliant.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Senior Grants & Finance Officer and Project Accountant.

Qualification and Experience

  • It is necessary to have a recent college degree in accounting/finance, business commerce, or a similar field.
  • Comprehension and familiarity with accounting terms, theories, and practices.
  • Familiarity with and comprehension of projects funded by donors.

 Skills and Competencies

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and familiarity with a range of commercial accounting software packages.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks and maintain structure.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication abilities in both written and spoken English are essential.
  • Self-management—that is, drive, ability to handle pressure, and flexibility—is essential.
