Our goal at MS TCDC is to meet the increasing need in Africa for transformative, values-driven leadership by expanding our educational offerings. The organization is looking for a dynamic, highly driven candidate to fill the role of Swahili Language Intern in order to assist this expansion.

The Head of the Intercultural Unit will get direct reports from the Swahili Language Intern, who will help provide top-notch Swahili language training and associated cultural programs. For a recent graduate or young professional, this position presents a fantastic chance to obtain practical experience in curriculum creation, program administration, and language instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the creation of educational resources for the classroom, such as curriculum, training manuals, and teaching aids.
  • Assist in organizing and directing program field trips in conjunction with other educators.
  • Starter learners should receive in-person and online training in Swahili.
  • At the conclusion of each program cycle, compile assessments of the programs and create evaluation reports.
  • Help in organizing oral proficiency assessments and language partner orientations for students of all skill levels studying Swahili.
  • Manage the logistics of seminars, conferences, and cultural events in addition to providing administrative support for courses run under the Intercultural Unit (ICU).
  • Arrange conferences and festivals celebrating Swahili language and culture in cooperation with partners.
  • Take part in the periodic review and update of the course materials.
  • Complete any additional responsibilities pertaining to the department’s operations, such as general support work.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide the Center with technical assistance, especially in the areas of intercultural education and language instruction.
  • Participate in meetings, collaborate with team members, and offer backup help when needed to demonstrate that you are an involved and active member of the department.
  • Engage in cooperative activities and help preserve the respectful and cooperative culture of MS TCDC.
  • Maintain the utmost levels of honesty, reliability, and dedication in all that you do; also, handle MS TCDC assets and property with care.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, Swahili, or a similar discipline.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills combined with the capacity to behave professionally and with business etiquette.
  • Proficiency with email communication programs such as Outlook Express and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the capacity to communicate with individuals from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

Terms and Conditions:

  • The MS TCDC Training Center in Usa River, Arusha, is the home of the Swahili Language Intern post.
  • A six-month contract is offered to the intern, with the option of an extension based on programmatic requirements and performance.
  • In accordance with MS TCDC policy, an intern will receive a stipend to help with living expenses during the duration of their employment. The intern’s remuneration will be determined by their experience and qualifications.
