To serve as the Project Manager for the IKEA Foundation-funded project “Enabling Vegetable Business Development in East Africa for More Jobs and Better Human and Environmental Health” (also known as V4P&P), WorldVeg is looking for a highly experienced candidate. Through increasing vegetable production and commerce, the project hopes to support improved nutrition, healthier ecosystems, and young employment. The chosen applicant will take the lead in initiatives aimed at bolstering the vegetable industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and schedule project activities, plan workshops, keep track of deliverables, assessment activities, and project schedules. Prepare and send project reports to the funder for the two priority countries.
  • Oversee project budget and personnel (hiring, remuneration, and performance).
  • Oversee and plan the work of employees and partner organizations that have been subcontracted in Kenya and Ethiopia to carry out fieldwork and accomplish program objectives.
  • Lead field monitor when needed; assist with training on M&E data collection and database maintenance.
  • For the purpose of knowledge exchange and cross-learning, closely collaborate and plan with colleagues in charge of other complementary projects in the Eastern and Southern African regions.
  • Keep track of and document program performance, best practices, and experiences at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • As per the V4P&P project’s research agenda, make sure that high-quality science and research are delivered.

The Person:

  • A PhD or master’s degree in agricultural economics, horticulture, agronomy, agroecology, or another agricultural field, together with a keen interest in and track record of success in business growth.
  • At least five years of experience overseeing agri-food systems initiatives in Eastern and Southern Africa involving many countries.
  • Broad understanding of rural networks, organizations, agribusiness, food systems, and Eastern and Southern African cultural customs.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication abilities.
  • Capacity to collaborate with interdisciplinary groups in a multicultural and international setting.

The Reward:

The salary and perks for this Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) role are competitive. Three years will pass during the first appointment. A project funding agreement between WorldVeg and the project donor is a requirement for recruitment.
