IESC through the USAID Funded, Feed the Future Tanzania Agri-Finance Project is looking for a Tanzanian consultant to help with a forthcoming project that will evaluate Tanzania’s seed production industry to identify its potential, possibilities, and profitability. With a focus on women and youth, the seed study will pinpoint areas for capacity building on both sides in order to unlock financing opportunities to increase the production and availability of high-quality seeds to Tanzanian farmers. It will also identify opportunities for collaboration between seed producers/out growers and financial institutions.

Responsibilities will include:

  • In order to understand the current opportunities and challenges related to seed production, processing, distribution, and consumption, it is necessary to identify and arrange interviews with financial institutions, farmers and farmer groups, seed companies, TASTA (association of seed traders), government ministries and agencies, local government authorities, and other interested stakeholders.
  • Acting as an interpreter when necessary during stakeholder interviews with the lead consultant
  • Making notes when speaking with stakeholders
  • Collaborating with the lead consultant to determine needs and offer suggestions on successful approaches to involving target audiences, such as the design of particular financial products and services, operational enhancements mandated by financial institutions, and knowledge/capacity building needs among prospective borrowers.

Competencies Requested:

  • Advanced education at a university in a relevant subject of study, such as economic development, business administration, agricultural, or agriculture economics
  • A minimum of eight years of pertinent experience in enterprise development, business management, agribusiness, and financing
  • Self-reliance and excellent people skills
  • Research, statistical, and data collection and synthesis skills for both primary and secondary sources into written deliverables
  • Extensive real-world experience in funding agriculture
  • Knowledge of evaluating the barriers and spotting opportunities in the agriculture industry
  • Ability to recognize and work with a variety of stakeholders in the public and private sectors
  • Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
  • A focus on goals and a practical approach.
  • Good communication skills, both in writing and speaking.
  • Self-driven, proactive, meticulous, responsible, professional team player with strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
