Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in collaboration with Participating United Nations Organizations (PUNO) developed Joint Programme on Data for Digital Agricultural Transformation. The Programme context is the legal basis of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2022 -2027) which was Signed between Government and United Nations.
The National Agriculture and Digital Transformation Specialist will be in charge of managing the daily execution of the UNJP/URT/167/UNJ projects, working under the general supervision of the FAO Representative, the technical direction of the Regional Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representatives (Programs).
Tasks and responsibilities:
To accomplish the following tasks, s/he will collaborate closely with the program team and the FAO Representation.
- Oversee the nation’s program for the transformation and partnership of digital agriculture.
- Organize and plan training sessions for extension agents, guiding farmers, women, and young people in utilizing digital agricultural services.
- Provide agricultural extension services for mobile and web-based platforms via AI-powered digital channels.
- To hasten smallholder farmers’ adoption of digital agriculture services, organize the procurement of suitable ICT equipment and agricultural instruments.
- Support the Hand in Hand Digital Services Portfolio and Geospatial Platform.
- Create the workplan and any additional plans needed to carry out the project’s operations.
- Help oversee national operations, daily coordination and contact with program partners at the national level, and suggest potential changes to project implementation tactics if necessary if the project is not going as expected.
Minimum Requirements:
- Advanced degree from university in agriculture, agriculture and ICT, agriculture and digital area, or a similar topic;
- Five years of expertise in the field analyzing and creating digital and agricultural programs;
- Functional proficiency in Swahili and English
- Citizen of Tanzania.
Selection Criteria:
- Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities in Swahili and English.
- Ability to handle digital services and programs and other information and communication technologies technically.
- Work experience in the agricultural industry, especially in the field of digital agriculture and allied fields.
- Experience fostering partnerships through work with government agencies, the private sector, neighborhood-based organizations, and non-governmental organizations.
- The capacity to speak and understand English well.
