The Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and sustainably transform food systems to improve people’s lives. Alliance solutions address the global crises of malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation.
The project driver will be in charge of driving field staff to various research sites for breeding-CIAT programs in Tanzania, as well as providing technical support for CIAT vehicles. The driver will collaborate closely with scientists and support workers on bean initiatives. The driver will collaborate closely with the bean breeding staff, the administration, and the logistics team and interact with scientists, visitors, government stakeholders, interns, and students on a variety of projects.
Key duties & responsibilities:
- Ensure that shipments, correspondence, and other relevant items are delivered to the appropriate offices and companies.
- Operate CIAT program vehicles and tractors as directed to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of employees and visitors.
- Long-distance travel may be undertaken with or without CIAT workers as required, while adhering to all traffic and CIAT laws.
- Always keep the vehicle and tractor clean and in good condition, and make sure all relevant documentation (such as insurance and driver’s licenses) is up to date.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on the vehicle and tractor, such as checking oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, water levels, and tire pressure.
Requirements:
- A minimum of O-Level secondary schooling or equivalent.
- At least three years of experience, preferably in an international organization with regional exposure.
- Clean and valid Class C driver’s license, as well as a certificate of good conduct.
- Mechanical training or basic automotive knowledge, as well as the ability to do simple repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Basic computer application.
