Afyaplus is a non-profit organization operating under the NGO Act 2002, committed to improving public health through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiatives, nutrition, as well as adolescent and young women’s empowerment. In Tanzania, many communities face significant challenges in accessing essential services such as clean water, sanitation, education, and healthcare. We’re looking for a highly driven, experienced, and dynamic female project officer to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree and at least two years of experience in project management, community development, or a similar sector. This full-time role demands a results-driven professional with strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills. As the Project Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that Afyaplus’ projects are completed on time, under budget, with stakeholder participation, and in accordance with professional standards. This position requires a strategist who can manage many duties, create new solutions, and effectively lead project teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Implementation
- Lead project activities, ensuring that objectives are met within schedules and budgets.
- Work with internal teams and external partners to create precise work plans and timetables for project tasks.
- Coordinate field visits, community outreach activities, and training sessions to raise awareness about WASH practices and Afyaplus initiatives.
- Ensure the smooth and effective implementation of projects in accordance with Afyaplus’ goal and vision.
2. Budget Management
- Monitor project finances attentively to ensure that resources are allocated and used efficiently.
- Collaborate with the program manager to monitor financial performance versus budgets, identify potential risks, and recommend mitigation solutions.
- Ensure that all project expenses are documented and reported in accordance with donor guidelines and organizational rules.
3. Reporting and Documentation
- Create high-quality narratives and reports that keep management, sponsors, and stakeholders up to date on project progress.
- Document project activities, success stories, and lessons learned for internal and external audiences.
- Contribute to proposal development and grant applications, ensuring that they are consistent with Afyaplus’ strategic objectives and donor expectations.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop positive relationships with local government officials, school representatives, community leaders, and other Afyaplus stakeholders.
- Represent Afyaplus at external forums, meetings, and networking events, advocating for the organization’s initiatives and forming connections.
- Engage community groups and volunteers to increase participation and ownership of WASH and adolescent health programs.
Key Qualifications
1. Education
- A bachelor’s degree in public health, social sciences, development studies, community development, or a closely connected discipline.
2. Experience
- A minimum of two years’ experience managing or organizing programs, ideally in WASH, health, or girl empowerment efforts.
3. Skills and Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and persuading abilities are required to establish and sustain connections with key stakeholders.
