MDH Hiring Zonal Project Officer

The primary goal of the non-profit, non-governmental organization Management and Development for Health (MDH) is to assist in the resolution of public health challenges both globally and in Tanzania. Health system strengthening, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health (RMNCH) are among the top priorities. The MDH is devoted to working with a diverse variety of local and international organizations, including the MOH, PORALG, donor agencies, academic and non-academic institutions, implementing partners, civil society, community-based, and faith-based groups, among others.

The Zone Project Officer (ZPO) is responsible for the technical direction, implementation, and administration of MDH’s clubfoot project in their respective zones. From identifying and managing clubfoot patients to training and mentoring providers, providing treatment supplies, providing supportive supervision, ensuring quality assurance, collecting data, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and maintaining strategic networks and collaboration with key stakeholders, this person will lead the project’s day-to-day implementation across the project’s zones of coverage.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation, quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting of the clubfoot program and services in the allocated zone in accordance with the project’s workplan, working with LGAs, R/CHMTs, and other key stakeholders.
  • Support health education, community involvement, and demand generation to increase the number of children receiving clubfoot treatment services across areas.
  • Conduct skill assessments and coordinate capacity development for health care practitioners in clubfoot management using virtual and in-person trainings, mentoring, continuous medical education (CMEs), clinical attachment, and other modalities.
  • Use the national supply chain system to provide effective supply chain management of clubfoot treatment supplies, such as timely quantification and forecasting, ordering, stock management, and consumption reporting.
  • Consolidate current and future clubfoot management clinics across regions, including provider capacity development, data collection, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting.
  • Perform regular site visits for technical assistance (TA) and joint support supervision at all clubfoot clinics and participating clinics in the zone.
  • Lead efforts to verify and ensure fidelity, SOP adherence, and the quality of services and data on the clubfoot program via supervision, data quality assessment, chart/register review, spot checks, and other methods.
  • Create and sustain strategic networks and cooperation with important stakeholders, such as LGAs, R/CHMTs, health facilities, and non-governmental/civil society/community-based/faith-based groups.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of the clubfoot program and services, including accurate and timely recording and reporting in the CAST system, data quality assessment, and data usage to drive plans, decisions, and resource allocation.
  • Help write technical program documentation such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), job aids, information, education, and communication (IEC) materials, quarterly/annual reports, best practices, lessons learned, and other pertinent publications.
  • Support the dissemination of MDH clubfoot program results via abstracts, posters, papers, policy briefs, presentations, and other channels.
  • Encourage a culture of high performance, dedication, regular monitoring, and responsibility for results at the individual and collective levels as one MDH team.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Physiotherapy, medicine, or a similar discipline requires a bachelor’s degree or comparable credentials from a recognized university.
  • Capability to provide both basic and advanced Ponseti therapy.
  • Effective training and mentoring skills.
  • A ‘Team 2’ ACT trainer.
  • Ability to collaborate well in groups and interact respectfully with persons from various socioeconomic and educational levels.
  • Excellent written and spoken English abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work successfully both alone and with supervision.
  • Experience creating sales force reports.
  • Very advanced computer abilities, including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email.
  • Willingness to travel often within the zone.
