Tembo Nickel Hiring Finance Lead

Tembo Nickel is seeking to recruit the finance lead to join the Kabanga Nickel Project Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the project from a financial point of view, including budgeting, cost allocation, reporting, and governance. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Key Focus Areas Include:

  • There is a need for corporate financial reporting and the establishment of statutory accounts.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day ownership of accounting functions, including the month-end close.
  • The site and group in London receives cost and management reports.
  • We are responsible for internal control and SOX compliance management.
  • Responsible for the management of local and group audit timelines.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • I am responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and other financial reports, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting for local companies and reporting to the Group.
  • Maintain financial governance, internal controls, and SOX compliance in accordance with Group standards at all times.
  • Make sure you always meet all internal and external reporting deadlines.
  • Responsible for producing timely monthly cost centre management accounts and qualitative commentary against the approved budget.
  • Assist the CFO in preparing budgets, forecasts, and presentations to local and group management.
  • Ensure all day-to-day, month-end financial accounting tasks are timely (e.g., reconciliations, legal filings, and relevant documentation).
  • Assist the CFO in driving standardization of processes between the group and project sites.
  • The process involves identifying and reporting accounting issues, as well as supporting the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) that adhere to the group standards.
  • Facilitate the coordination of the CFO and integrated planning meetings with heads of department.
  • Review operating capital expenditure and forecasts to ensure alignment with business strategy and to optimize return on investment.
  • Assist the CFO in initiating, developing, implementing, streamlining, and maintaining the company’s necessary financial strategies, policies, and procedures to manage finances effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and corporate governance compliance requirements.
  • Communicate findings of audits, best practices, and improvement recommendations to senior management.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the finance team through hands-on management and applying industry best practices.

Qualifications and Competencies: The applicant should have:

  • A degree from a recognized higher learning institution in Accounting and Finance, Economics, or another relevant field is required.
  • Seeking a professional accounting qualification, preferably CPA and ACCA.
  • The candidate must have at least eight (8) years of experience with a global audit firm.
  • Worked for a listed company.
  • SOX experience is ideal.
  • Possess proficiency in audit processes, financial reporting, and IFRS reporting standards.
  • Possess strong Excel skills and am familiar with financial software.
  • Have gained experience in the mining industry.
