Job Summary:
As a Business Banking Relationship Manager, you’ll nurture and grow a portfolio of business clients, fostering lasting relationships built on dependable, high-quality service. Your role will focus on delivering swift risk decisions, maintaining operational excellence, and driving business growth by maximizing portfolio value and expanding client opportunities.
Job Purpose:
Build and sustain strong, long-term relationships with business banking clients by providing reliable support and efficient service. Your goal is to optimize risk-adjusted portfolio performance while growing business with both new and existing clients, increasing Absa’s share of their financial needs.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Service (65%)
- Develop and maintain relationship plans to prioritize client engagement.
- Conduct annual reviews (and interim reviews when needed) for clients with borrowing and non-borrowing facilities.
- Communicate key updates, such as service standards, pricing, or product changes, using the most effective channels.
- Address and resolve client complaints promptly and effectively.
- Identify and promote products that best meet clients’ needs, selling proactively and reactively.
- Build and pursue a target list for potential new business opportunities.
Business Management (30%)
- Identify high-priority clients using customer relationship planning tools to evaluate their current and potential value.
- Collaborate with Credit Management Assistants (CMA) and Corporate Credit Managers (CCM) to gather and input critical data for credit applications.
- Maintain portfolio quality and control, adhering to risk management guidelines and policies.
- Research and follow up on new business prospects.
Staff Management (5%)
- Provide daily coaching and development for corporate service assistants to enhance team performance.
Risk and Control Objectives
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, Absa’s Operational Risk Framework, and internal policies.
- Embed a positive risk culture by applying relevant risk frameworks and managing controls effectively.
- Understand your role in end-to-end processes, including associated risks, and adhere to Absa’s policies with sound judgment.
- Report all risk events, incidents, or issues promptly, analyzing their causes and proposing preventive measures.
- Proactively improve the control environment by identifying potential risks and solutions.
- Engage continuously with regulatory bodies and unions as needed.
- Complete all mandatory training by the deadlines.

Education
National Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies (Required).
