CAN Tanzania 35 Merit- And Need-based Scholarships 2024/2025

The Climate Action Network (CAN) Tanzania is pleased to offer 35 merit- and need-based scholarships for the academic year 2024/2025, including 10 Master’s, 10 Bachelor’s, and 15 Diploma programs. The award aims to provide financial assistance to students in need who demonstrate academic distinction and have the capacity to drive community reform.

Target Applicants

The applicant must be: 

  • A Tanzanian.
  • A member of a civil society organization (CSO), non-governmental organization (NGO), faith-based organization (FBO), or private sector (such as non-state entities, corporations, and business organizations).
  • A woman or youth with potential leadership qualities who is devoted to serving the community after completing their schooling.
  • The primary reason for this is a financial necessity related to career and initiative plans.
  • Admitted to a relevant program in the field of interest at a Tanzanian-accredited institution during the 2024/2025 cycle.
  • In unusual situations, postponed and continuing students with three years (diploma/bachelor) or two years (master’s) of study remaining may be considered with special justification.

  • Climate Change and Climate Protection.
  • Gender Equity, Leadership, and Governance.
  • Development Sustainability.

Application Requirements

1. Diploma and Bachelor Applicants 

  • Must be under the age of 25 at the time of application.
  • Must have finished ordinary or advanced level secondary school in 2022 or 2024.

Complete application documents should consist of:

  1. Completed the online application form.
  2. Include your leadership skills and extracurricular activities in your curriculum vitae (one page, pdf).Copies of secondary education certificates (pdf).Copy of birth certificate (pdf).A copy of your national identity or NIDA number (pdf).
  3. One recommendation letter from the Ward Executive Office (stamped, pdf).

2. Master Applicant 

  • Must have at least 1 year of professional or volunteer experience.  (ii)       Must not be older than 40 years at the time of application.  Complete application documents should consist of:
    • Completed online Application form.
    • Curriculum vitae (one page) include your leadership skills and extracurriculars (pdf).
    • Copies of secondary school and bachelor certificates and transcripts (pdf). Copy of birth certificate (pdf). Copy of National Identity or NIDA Number (pdf). 
    • One recommendation letter from the Ward Executive Office (stamped) (pdf).
    • One recommendation letter from the sending organization/institution (stamped) (pdf).

General Conditions

  • The candidate shall study a full-time program in the fields of interest mentioned in Part 2.
  • Women and individuals with support needs are encouraged to apply.
  • The CAN Tanzania Merit- and Need-Based Scholarship shall not be provided concurrently with any other grant, loan, or award to assist the awardee in the same preferred program.
  • Provisional results, assertions of results, and Forms 4 and 6 result slips will not be considered.
  • Scholarships have a maximum period of three years (36 months) for Diploma and Bachelor students and two years (24 months) for Master students. However, the scholarship is renewable annually for consecutive academic years, provided the awardee meets the grant’s continuous eligibility standards, which include being a continuing student. (vi) Scholarship recipients must undergo practical training or research in CSOs, NGOs, FBOs, or the private sector (such as non-state actors, businesses, and business associations) throughout their studies.

NOTE: The scholarship application deadline is October 20th, 2024, at midnight (E.A.T.). The selection and awarding results will be disclosed to shortlisted applicants in October/November 2024.
