KSCL is a subsidiary of the Illovo Sugar Africa Group, Africa’s largest sugar producer, with major agricultural and industrial activities in six African countries: South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, Eswatini, Zambia, and Tanzania.
The selected applicant will be in charge of leading the shift team in the designated area (Raw House) to ensure production requirements and standards are fulfilled in a safe and efficient way.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
- Plan and manage each employee’s daily work and performance on their given shift, coordinate calendars, and allocate work activities to fulfill team and corporate goals securely.
- Achieve shift, daily, weekly, and monthly performance objectives for the particular area by prioritizing and planning work in a logical, methodical, and cost-effective manner to maximize profitability.
- Create a budget for the factory area in collaboration with the factory manager and finance business partner, and efficiently control expenses.
- Monitor performance and provide assistance and advice to teams as they solve issues and/or take corrective action.
- Monitor the standards for setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment, and make sure that instructions are followed.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in production performance and quality management and supervise the deployment of systems and procedures to achieve such improvements.
- Provide technical and process assistance to the appropriate teams.
- Maintain continual improvement by using functional best practices and performing physical inspections.
- Inspect essential equipment and verify it meets minimal criteria.
- Supervise factory maintenance requirements.
- Work with the optimization and maintenance teams to address issues and encourage cross-functional collaboration and cooperation.
- Ensure that reporting complies with business policy and practice.
- Identify and monitor key performance indicators to measure performance and alert to problems.
- Promote and follow Kilombero Sugar Co. Ltd. procedures, policies, and guidelines, particularly those pertaining to safety, health, environment, risk, and quality (SHERQ).
Job Requirements:
- B. Sc. in Chemical/Process Engineering from a recognized institution.
- 2 or more years of post-employment experience in a heavy industrial setting, including at least one year in the sugar business, will be advantageous.
- One or more years of supervising experience will be advantageous.
- Computer literacy.
- Self-motivated and able to inspire others.
- Good communication skills. Capability to plan, organize, lead, and manage.
