The ideal technical writer has a track record of success and can tell interesting stories. The ideal candidate is a capable collaborator who works well under pressure and is passionate about animal conservation in Africa and worldwide. Applicants for public funding should include theories of change, logical frameworks, and other key features. The ideal candidate has global or cross-cultural project design experience. We want someone who can work and live anywhere TNC has a registered office, preferably in one of our Africa nation programs (South Africa, Angola, Gabon, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, or Angola) or the US. This position does not involve work visas or immigration help.

Responsibilities:

  • Create outstanding public financing proposal narratives, applications, and supporting materials in collaboration with TNC colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to transform technical solutions into clear, engaging, and legally compliant proposal materials.
  • Collaborate with TNC Africa Business Development and colleagues to coordinate and oversee the writing, editing, finalization, and submission of proposals and applications, as well as internal teams and partnerships.
  • Refine content drafts based on comments while collaborating with the proposal team.
  • Accept ownership and accountability for meeting timelines, goals, and objectives connected to the proposal content.
  • Effectively communicate TNC’s objectives and programs to potential public funders.
  • Gather and submit the essential proposal papers, including technical documents, commitment letters, CVs, declarations of institutional capability, prior performance reviews, budget narratives, gender and safeguarding documents, and any other materials that may be requested.
  • Focus on efficiently managing several projects and meeting deadlines, all while cultivating strong internal and external relationships.
  • Carry out activities and solve complex problems with guidance, operating autonomously within the given parameters.
  • Oversee and/or coordinate the efforts of colleagues and consultants.
  • Assist in reviewing the proposal creation process and developing appropriate remedial solutions.
  • May do desk research to improve proposal and program success.
  • May provide additional writing assistance to public award implementation teams, such as technical report and plan reviews.
  • Because the majority of colleagues in this role are in African and North American time zones, you must be willing to travel and work flexible hours.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience, is required.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Proficient in writing, editing, and proofreading English content for public awards, with a focus on developing winning bids worth at least US$1 million.
  • Skilled at leading project or proposal design meetings or workshops, developing change theories, and communicating technical topics in a clear, engaging, and logical manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in different international teams.
  • Capable of developing project proposals for written, in-person, and virtual presentations, with a solid expertise in visual design and formatting.
